Bye 2018, Hello 2019

For a few years now, I have decided to not do New Year’s Resolutions.  I never keep them and then feel guilty about not keeping them.  But I have found that setting myself a word or theme of the year works much better.  I mentally review my year during the Holiday Season and start thinking about the next year and what I would like it to look like. Announcing my 2019 theme: Find Joy. Follow along with me as I share where I Find Joy and how I will learn to more purposefully Find Joy in my everyday life and in my business.

Where do you Find Joy?

I started putting my new theme into action a little before the beginning of 2019.  See, one way for me to find it is learning. I love to learn new things. So during the holidays, hubby and I managed to escape for a few hours into his workshop. He was finally able to show me how most of his wood related power tools work.

And I managed to create my first solo project!! If you are following me on Facebook or Instagram – and if not, do that right away 😉  – you have seen pics of my time in there and teasers of what I was working on.

For those of you how are just joining me, here is a quick picture recap:

<– Hubby is always so impressed when I take pictures 🙂 This is his workshop that I invaded for the duration of this project.

My little work area all setup. We had the planner too but it’s hiding behind me.–>

Day 1

The first day was spent learning about the tools and prepping the wood pieces. I used 2 pieces of wood that we recycled from previous projects.  One was a piece of 1×4 and the other a 2×6.

The 1×4 was cut into lengths that I then glued together to make the bigger pieces.  The 2×6 was cut into thin strips.

Day 2

The next day was spent squaring off the glued pieces, staining and assembling it all.  I posted a picture on my social media channels but no one was able to guess what I was working on…. Can you before you scroll down?

Did you guess?

Here is the final project:

A beautiful wooden crate custom made by me for my son’s room. I omitted the handles on purpose so that when they are all put together, I can add some pics or decals on the side of his shelves.

I stained it in a grey Driftwood color as his room will have a fishing theme to it.

What do you think?
